Rear bumper shock replacement

I finally got around to replacing the driver side rear rubber bumper strip. I found that the 2 bumper shock nuts are rusted. One of them came off fine, the other is in bad shape. The only way to get it off is to cut the bumper shock bolt. Something I was not prepared to due this weekend. I checked the bently manual and it appears that the bumper shock is held in place by a retaining nut at the back, a clamp on the side and the two nuts on the bumper.

Can the bumper shock be replaced without removing the bumper.

I just took of my front ones this weekend, ( they are similar to the rear) and the only issue would be pulling your bumper out a little bit in order to get the rear stud (where the retaing nut goes) out of the hole that it slides into.

If you remove the strap with the two bolts that holds the side of the bumper shock and just gently pull the bumper towards you it shoud work fine.

I have 74 that I am currently building. Unless Porsche changed something, Bumper has to come off. As manual shows, the bumper shock has 2 threaded stud on bumper side and one toward the body. Removing the nut on passenger by the oil tank is little tricky due to limited view. I used universal joint and little fishing around to do the job without taking out the oil tank.

Have you tried the usual "stuck bolt" tricks to loosen 'er up? WD-40 with some light hammer tapping, repeat, repeat until loose. Otherwise, there's no way to remove the bumper shock without removing the bumper.

Thanks for the response. You confirmed my estimate of another weekend in the garage.
