Indiana GruppeB Meets So CA SCWDP (AKA- The Hammer hits Anaheim)
After two days of trying to get out of the Midwest, the Hammer made it to Anaheim. Pelicanites Sam Gore, Paul & Sherry Sopp, and myself met Shawn and two of his coworkers, Mike & Glen(?), at TJ Schmitt’s across the street from the Anaheim Pond.
After sometime outside checking out the P-cars, we had a couple hours of great food & TJ’s beer, good conversation, and great company. Even though Shawn likes living there, he convinced me that I never want to live in Indiana, maybe he was trying to say something else. Us CA guys should try to do the same I guess, but it’s hard when the sun is shining all year. After dinner we looked at P-cars a little more and I gave Shawn a ride back to his hotel. I wish I could have given him a better ride but I don’t trust the V1 on the streets around Disneyland at 10pm. Next time we’ll have to make it on a weekend so we can hit a few So CA canyons. It was great seeing you guys and meeting you Shawn. I hope you ended up having a great trip to Kalifornia.

It was great to meet the face behind the name. We really had a great time. We still have to plan the Hooters and see the pick of Sammy's 914 on the wall. Maybe we should all bring a pick, some wood screws and a screwdriver . . .
Ryan and Shawn, you should have followed me, I found out what 5th at 5,000 rpms was like.

Had a good time, MC Hammer is a great guy, real down to earth. Looking at paul and ryan's 3.6 liter powered targa SC's, I'm starting to think a turbo on my car may not be enough
We didn't have a huge turnout but it was prolly just right, any more people and it would have been hard to share the conversations like we did. In conlusion based on the talk around the dinner table, real estate prices in kalifornia are way too high, Airports in the MidWest can be a real PITA, and the weather in Indiana sux. Oh, and Shawn is qualified to be in either B-gruppe or R-gruppe based on his description of his car and his state of mind Oh, and I'm a doctor now (inside joke, I finally got it). |

I'm sure that a verbal exchange took place as to who is the most supreme. GruppeB or SCWDP.
Shawn, did you slip the GruppeB microchip into Ryans beer?

Here's the story of the 914 in Hooters that paul's talking about, we had a fun run and ended up taking a picture of my old yellow turbocharged 914 (that I sold that day).
6 months later we went on another run and ended up at Newport hooters (again). Mike Z and Steve Malmz had the picture framed and screwed in on the wall upstairs. It's still there AFAIK.

Had a great time. The turn out was just about right. We had good food and conversation. The cars were amazing. Ryans car was plenty fast even with him holding back. Our flight home was much better. No delays. I thought it was fun watching mike and Genes eyes glaze over as we Pelicanheads rambled on about our cars.
I am planning to drag my house to Cali and sell it for millions of dollars! We got to the beach, hooters and Downtown Disney the next day. Saw a real(pretty sure) 959 at hooters! i will post the pic when I get it off my camera. If i ever get back out there we will have to get together again. I want a ride in Sams turbo SC next time around...

Can I? No. BTW all us dumb Hoosiers were driving around in our rental car looking for an actual "Pond" across from the resturant.

Here is the 959 we saw. I am pretty sure it is real. The wheels looked authentic and the interior seemed different. Also had a 300km Speedo. Peeking in the engine compartment the engine of what I could see also looked different than a normal 911 engine. Also had I assume the oil fill in the driver side rear fender and the fuel door on the hood upper drivers side corner.
