77' 915 question swing arm hard to move

why is the swing arm so hard to move ?? must I R & R the shaft to solve it ..Thanks Frank

It is twisting a torsion bar which is the rear suspension "spring element" that carries most of the weight on that wheel. What are you trying to do? Why do you want to move the swing arm? Jim

Iam sorry Jim,..I meant the arm that moves the T/O brg inside the tranny,..its on a bench (trying to clean it up) and I noticed it does not move very freely takes a bit of force to operate...TIA Frank

if the tranny is by itself, the arm should move freely...at least mine did (1975 915). All the resistance could be explained if the fork is still grabbing the T/O bearing.

The 1977 915's have a helper or auxilliary spring( it has an "Omega shape") on the clutch release lever. Have you disconnected this helper spring? Jim

No Jim,..I have not..but when I work the fork,..It did NOT seem to action that part,..Hmmm maybe some Internal presure ??? Thanks Frank
