Where do you think this auction will end at?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2454804694&category=10156

My guess is $34,000

Michael

how can it be "better than new" condition? Nothing's been replaced other than the tires. I don't think it will sell for over $30K.

Beautiful car, it's at $25k now, sounds like a fair price but the reserve still isn't met.

The "better than new" part is definitely hyperbole, maybe if it had 16 miles instead of 16k, and was stored in a humidity-controlled garage it would be "still new". The car does look perfect, though. Saying that it has had a careful owner would be a bit of an understatement, no?

I could see it being worth over $30k for sure, there are not many brand new 1988 911s around. And that is almost what this is, and it sold for ~$46k in '88.

People here will say, "yeah, but if I drive it, the value will depreciate". Yes, of course it will. Like any new car. But a lot less, depending on purchase price. A garage queen '88 w/ under 100k miles is what, $24k?

I would buy a car like this in a heartbeat if in the market. FWIW, though, this car has NO OPTIONS, other than normal minimum U.S. equipment.

I guess he gets his reserve.

Even at $35k, seems like a good deal for a Porsche nut.

Perhaps at Pomona, $12 to $14k would seem right.

If one backs away from the forest, $35k ain't such a bad price. If I was rolling in cash I would make this car my project and backdate the sucker to '72 looks with a 3.8 Porsche Motorsports motor . . . and those other "minor" improvements to make it work as a street sleeper.

Only thing I don't like is that it is red. I prefer the deep blue/black that JO has on his car - I think he claims it is black.

So, I would repaint it as well.

I've also seen some really nice all original early Es and Ss that would work well too for the above described "conversion".

One day, when I have the money to do any of the above, the "Church" of the 911 better look out!

Note: I like the Cayenne TT and would be first in line for a Porsche 4-door! :0

BR,

Kurt

I can't see how anyone would want to pay more than 25k for this car and I doubt that it will hit your predicted 34k. It isn't anything special, except that it hasn't been used. Of course, on the other hand, what decent new car doesn't cost 30k these days!

You think the owner ever felt that he owned this car? Use a replacement key from day one? That's sick. I feel sorry for the guy. But who knows, there may be some other anal retentive out there that is just looking for something like this. The power of the internet!!!

To me, "better than new" means many $$ worth of aftermarket performance enhancing parts and labor. I doubt that buying a car and letting it sit for 16 years improves its condition.
There are many "enhanced" Carreras out there for a lot less money! (26k tops IMO for this one)

Cool. A companion car for my 17,308 mile Targa! ;-)

I haven't found issues, such as cracked or dried rubber at all. Some components may have been replaced without documentation by the PO, but think it has more to do with proper storage (reasonable humidity/temperature) and periodic conditioning of the rubber. I may replace the brake rubber lines just as a precaution anyway.

$32,000 - $35,000 will get you a very clean 930.

RE: Exercising a car

I also believe that not driving a car for a long periods of time can be bad. I try to drive my red car at least once or twice a week for at least 30 minute drives.

I would opt for the 930 given the price range too. I mean a mint low mileage car like this is awesome, but you can get a great somewhat low mileage sorted 930.

JP:

You really want to replace those lines, even if you only occasionally drive it. Old lines may baloon, giving you a mush pedal. Stay safe!

So, you buy a car with really low miles... and how do you feel about driving it? Guilty?

I want to drive a car, not dust it off.

That's why you would not be the right buyer for that car.

And, probably 99 out of 100 potential buyers will agree with you.

But, all the seller needs to do is find the 1 that wants a car just like that. For whatever reason - garage queen, PCA concours car (the car would likely do very well in the Preservation class), etc.

SoCall911SC is right. Sloan has a 79' 930 with 11K miles for $40k. AIC just sold an 88' 930 with 9k miles. Asking price was $49K.

Emission, I don't feel guilty at all about driving mine. To me it's the new car (almost) that I couldn't afford to buy in 1987.

27k miles and about 7 clicks higher on the boner-scale.
