Koni spacer ring

Has anyone ever pressed the spacer ring (next piece on after the o-ring) onto a Koni front strut spindle? Any tricks or hints? TIA.

Is that the metal ring or the plastic ring? I can't offer advice, but I'm curious as to the answer, as I just pulled apart my front end and when I pulled off the upper shock housing, pieces of a plastic ring showered across my garage floor.

This is a steel ring with a rolled or curved edge. It goes on to the axle stub next to the shock tube near the bottom, and acts as a spacer.

I think that is the spacer ring that many people remove when they replace their shocks. If we're talking about the same thing, I believe that it is a part of the suspension on US cars with the monster-truck-like ride height settings that is not necessary when the car is lowered.

Are you talking about the spacer on the spindle which butts up against the wheel bearing?

I found this was missing on one side of my car and contributing to the odd braking I was experiencing. I bought a new spacer and pressed it on to the axle stub. I first tried heating it with a torch but it wouldn't go all the way on. After trying that, I went to the hardware store and found some varous large diameter pipe fittings and washers which allowed me to build collar and use the treaded nut at the end of the axle to press it on.

I think it's part 24 in this diagram.

Hope this helps.http://www.pelicanparts.com/911/911_Parts/1974-75/4-2.JPG

That's it, part 24. That's a great idea to press it on, thanks for the tip. Those threads are kind of fine, but they were strong enough to do the job it would seem.
Funny you should mention having one spacer missing. The '74S front end I bought from a wrecking yard (with the Koni struts on it) had one side missing too,
Thanks J.W., when it stops moving, can I assume it's seated properly?
JP911, I believe you're thinking of the 1/4" thick metal washer at the top of the strut. I removed mine too, when I put in the new cartridges on the SC. There's no plastic on my front shocks, but there is a thin plastic wafer provided for the rear Koni gas for the 914.
