Black Beauty 1 to ride again?

Tyson and I have looked over the remains of BB1 and though she suffered a great shock with twists and bends here and there, we are seriously considering a resurrection.
Various incantations and a voodoo dance have already been performed and with donor junk suspension installed she has found her way to the body shop for a good look at her bone structure.
If deemed to be sound, some radical surgery will be performed.
Some of the ideas being considered are:
GT2 993 rear suspension
upper/lower control arm front coil over suspension
Carbon/kevlar one piece roof and cowl
carbon/kevlar 7 lb doors with 935 mirrors molded in
all the rest of her new outfit in lightweight 73 RSR fiberglass
10 and 12 x 17 wheels (until 18" race tires get reasonable)
Strip any remaining undercoating
Cutting every non essential piece of metal off the chassis- kind of the Hydroxy Cut/ Beverly Hills "diet" philosophy for cars
lexan windows all around
Carbon one piece dash
tube frame front chassis section
underbody aero tweaks (keeping the pleasing look of the outer upper surface intact)
and to motivate this street registered lil monster; a stock 2003 996 wasser cooled 300 hp reliable turn key motor
haven't decided on which trans yet- we have a short geared 915 on the shelf, so...

Jack O will have the honors of twisting the key for her maiden voyage, sometime in 2004. If things go smoothly, R Gruppe Monterey 04 will be the debut

What do you think?

I think that is freakin awesome!

I assume you'll post all the progress.

But this part comes from experience, be careful about setting Rgruppe events as your deadline

You could make it the unofficial official Pelican Car. I will buy a part for it.

I'll only be bummed if I get a third second-place trophy at the Open Track Challenge because I've been beaten by a new version of my old car.

You can't stop the march of progress. Sounds like it'll be an awesome leap forward for the 'Black Beauty' bloodline.

Sounds totally b!tchin' to me, except for the "wasserpumper" part, Dave. All the ducting/radiators/tubing and that whole level of water-cooling complication turns me off. The cool factor is thru the roof, though, it would be very different...

Put a 3.8 air-cooled RSR motor in it instead. Super lightweight tube framed over the barest skeleton of a '72 with a 993 suspension ala Ron Mistak's 914/gt1 sounds really sweet! Make it a CENTERSEATER!

Sounds outstanding, but two things:

1) a stock 2003 996 wasser cooled 300 hp reliable turn key motor - couldn't you try and find a GT3 motor

2) Needs aircon to be a black beauty - hahahaha. Please, I beg you don't.

Do it! You never know, you guys might be starting the next big engine transplant craze, 3.4 or 3.6 water pumpers, into early cars.

If your going to go water talk to Steven at imagine. He is getting some insane HP&torque numbers out of the new turbo motor. Why be a poser GT2 when it can be one for real?

As long as it was a live chicken instead of a bucket of extra crispy sounds promising....also answers a question floating about my brain for many moons about the viability of the BB1 tub.

I follow Dave's logic and admire the fact that someone is finally going to use one of these seemingly unwanted engines. Hell, 300bhp isn't bad at all!

Go Dave!

I would love to see BB1 back on the road, even with a waterpumper in the back. As a matter of fact, I'd be very interested in seeing what kind of work and dough it takes to pull off a 996 engine in a 911.
