Soon to be a VG "E"

Well, I have been asking questions for months now, and have learned as much as I could while waiting for my car to get worked on. Now my wrench has finally gotten to start work on it. So, here is the start of my story.

73 "E" Targa - 132K miles, matching numbers, originally Viper Green, being brought back to the original color. Lots of mechanical work done by the PO (thanks). Putting in the original radio, Sport Seats, Turbo Oil cooler. Engine numbers are good. Here's a few pictures of the start of a 4 month project. The car is due to be picked up on April 25th, and then a 4 day slow (fast) lazy (twisty) drive back to Chicago from Connecticut.

Here she is waiting patiently for her turn in the shop. Only I was anxious. She was calm.

From the front - Going to have H-4's installed in those empty sockets.

Trunk open - you can see the vestiges of the original Viper Green.

More Pix

Here's the rear end. The engine is in good shape. Carerra tensioners, entirely new brakes, front and rear sway bars. Tomorrow he is pulling the engine and tranny. Will detail the engine, and based on my reading of the post on Fan Techniques, we will bead blast the fan and clear coat it.

Driver's side - Redone Targa Top, newly restretched, with fresh rubber all around. I also got a correct Prototipo wheel for me to hug.

Here's the passenger side. More green peeking through. Door panels are in great shape, and there is dynomat on the floors.

Last shots for now

Pulled the fenders. Nice original (I am told) fuchs, with brand new Yoko AVS's. Looking a bit naked in the front.

Now it's stripped of the doors, lids and front fenders. Engine and tranny get pulled tomorrow, with wheels and she gets put on a dolly to get ready for the sanding, sanding, sanding.

I'll post more pictures when I get them. Sorry for the long posts, but I am very very very excited , can't you tell? My first Porsche, and it is only a bit more than 3 months away.
