What to look for in a 91 C2
Hello All,
I have been in the market for over 6 months and do not want to commit on just any car. I have found a 91 C2 that I am interested in and will be inspecting it this weekend. Of course a PPI is part of my process but what can I physically look for before the PPI? Any tips on rust spots, 3.6L issues, trans? TIA PS..the car has 96K, 5sp..he is asking 19K |

Not sure when Porsche fixed this problem on the 964's, but I think pre-92 964's have some potentially expensive leaky heads. You'll need to check for distr. vent kit, if the DMF has been replaced and plenty of electrical gremlins.

The switch over to head seals occured in mid 91. I would check the engine VIN to make sure it is not an early one if it is and early one check to see if it was updated. Many were. The rust weakness is on the cowl under the front windshield. This is a very common rust area for 964's who live in a damp climate. I also know the fuel tank sender is prone to need replacing. Mine was as well as just about everyone else I have spoken to. Good Luck. Great car I like mine so far. Had it for about 3 months.

Duel mass flywheel fails
Cylinder head leaks ($5,000+ repair) Duel distributor belt breaks (only one plug per cylinder fires, and one plug all the time) Oil cooler thermostat housing and lines leak Fuel tank sender recall IMO- $19k is a good price if there are no major problems Good luck

Look for leaks on the power steering pump - cam covers - and of course the cylinder head to case seal - the # - If I can remember from my search is late in the year in 1991 - like 3/4 of the way through... I'm sure someone will post the engine number that started the gaskets in the 3.6. I personally would not buy a pre gasket 3.6 unless I planned on immediately rebuilding it.

Have you searched the Rennlist 964 board? tons of info. there. As mentioned above the bigees are:
head to cyl. leaks dist. vent kit Dual mass flywheel. At that price I would not balk unless the head problems are there. I have even heard of people who say drive them with the leaks!!!! IF it had the leaks I would be looking to get it for $14K or $15K
