Where do I put 5 pound halon extinguisher?

I got a good used 5 pound halon fire extinguisher that needs to be installed inside my car for DE / time trial!

It came with a transmission linkage cover already attached, but I am not happy with the way it feels. The extinguisher is heavy and I am unsure if the sheet metal of the cover would hold on to it in case of a severe incident. I'd rather not have the extinguisher come loose!

I also do not like the transmission cover because I'd have to rip into the carpet. I have so far done all the mods for DE so they are completely reversible.

Being a 5 pounder, It is too fat to put it in front of the seat.

Is there a company making brackets to put it on the harness bar portion of the roll bar? That seems to be the best location I can come up with...

Where else do people put these? Unfortunately the season hasn't begun and I can't steal ideas from other 911 racers!

Please let me know!

Cheers, George

You can get a 5lb extinguisher in front of the passenger seat if you use a BK mount. You might not be able to put the seat all the way forward, but it will fit (this is going off of a standard Amerex 5lb halon/halotron bottle size).

How 'bout slung under and clamped onto the trunk's camber brace rod....but you need a camber brace....

Combine with a lever to activate from inside the car....run tubing to dash, inside car and engine compartment ( 3 places).

IIRC, the rules ask this to be within reach in the cockpit.

Oh, Brey Krause, okay.

What does the bracket look like that you made. Does it use the seat bolts (double up) or is it separately welded or boltet to the seat rails?

So, nobody has a source for a roll bar mounted solution???

Thanks, George

Lots of roll bar mounts.
Just go to all the safety & racing guys websites. They all have them.
Mine, if I remember I'll take a picture.

For reference, here is a BK mount (model 2016) with a 5lb Halotron bottle:

If you can move your passenger seat back far enough that it doesn't "overhang" the front OEM seat rail bolts, then it should fit. If you need any exact measurements of the bracket, let me know.

I mounted a thick plate of aluminum to the side of the tunnel, in front of the passenger seat (aside the console) using small bolts. Yes, they penetrate the carpet and tunnel, but if I removed them, you probably could not see the holes. To this aluminum plate, I bolted the extinguisher's regular mount. It all fits.

I ordered the Brey Krause mount for non power seat, PN 2015 from EBS today. Should be here soon and no CA tax. I hope it fits. One can fab something, but you can't beat a stainless tig welded rugged piece like that...
