CIS idle adjustment.
 

ok, i sorta understand how the idle is adjusted. with the air bypass screw. my book by Ben Watson, states that the idle is not to be adjusted by using that screw! he said it is a combination of procedures only to be performed by a qualified technician to get the correct idle. really? mine is a bit low at around 800 rpm. (when warm)

Are you sure? The book I have "How to Tune and Modify CIS" states not to adjust the idle by the throttle stop screw. It says TO us the bypass to adjust the idle speed.

In fact, to set the min air flow: It states you should turn the idle bypass in all the way and adjust the throttle stop down until the engine just barely idles (550 rpm). Then lock the throttle stop and adjust the bypass to get the idle back to 900.

Once you are certain that the timing is set correctly, the valves are properly adjusted and the fuel injection mixture is ok, there should not be any problem with using the air bleed screw for small idle adjustments. Just don't use it as a crutch to fix or cover up other problems.

Throttle body bypass screw. Yep. Play with it all you like. No problem.

Think long and hard before messing with the throttle stop adjustment. Your car will probably never need it.

Examine the plastic bushings that are SUPPOSED to be on the shaft that is mounted in the throttle linkage plate attached to the motor approximately over the #3 cylinder. And examine whether your throttle linkage is actually bringing your throttle to the fully open position. Very possibly it is not. If not, an adjustment will get you a little more power at full throttle.

Might be the same one you have. If it is see the Adjusting minimum air paragraph that starts on page 111.

I think it is a great book! The only part it doesn't cover is the decel valve. It gives very good explinations of everything else.
