SC Door maintenance and speakers.

I order a new door stay and the re-enforcer today as I'm going to do a little door maintenance pretty soon.
I thought I'd put new speakers in at the same time and clean up the window regulators.

Any parts I should replace while I'm in there?

And what's a good speaker that will fit the stock grills? Or
should I upgrade the grills to get a little more speaker?

Thanks

No Answer

Sorry, no answer but seeing that I have the same project planned this winter would appreciate your feedback as you work through the project.

Mine also needs reg adjustment for window height (currently too high to get a good seal).

I plan to go with some 5&1/2 to 6" speakers. From a quick search of prior posts it appears you should be able to fit a good pair.

Thanks, Gordo

If your interior door pulls are the original plastic and showing some age, you may want to consider replacing them.

I Did the aluminum door handles already. I did get new plastic clips were the rod fastens to the handle.

I guess I'll just have at it and see what I need when I get in there.

I replaced the plastic door liners (very thick, die-cut plastic sheeting material) between door and fiberboard door panels. Well worth the $6 to protect the expensive door panels.

Look around very carefully rust and treat it.

Consider spraying a micro-bead type (light wt.) sound deadener inside the panel.

Cool

consider a piece of sound deadner on skin
check if you have the up-graded regulator pivot
check lower outer skin to frame joint for rust
replace or clean interior of el window sw
hand slam inner sheetmetal to check for rattles
6 1/2" + 75w X 2 = dynamite

And those RS panels Look So Sweeeet, But if I did that were would my simple door maintenance project end? And I did get a gleam in my eye while looking at them.

I can hear my wife now, I thought you were just fixing the doors? Why are you taking the whole interior out??

Hmmmm, Did you say 50 HP? Sounds reasonable

Inspect the door handle triggers for elongation or tearing at the pivot hole.

Here is what happens when you take a perfectly good, stock car and add RS door panels...

From this:

Hey Bob, easy answer on the speakers, the best speaker is no speaker Did you pickup those SSI's? How bout a Sport muffler for a nice symphony of tunes?

Do they make those door panels in a tan? Very sharp looking and would go well with my weight reduction and spartan look I am shooting for. Oh yeah, they would go well with the car too....doh!

6.5 inch speakers will drop in easily, just need to remove the platic baffle inside the door to increase mounting depth.

RS door panels are an appearance item -- and a fad. They save almost no wt. at all -- weigh them and find out. You save a small amt. if you delete the map pockets but it is inconsequential.

If you want to save wt. there are a lot of other things to do. First, avoid a bumper car, second avoid a targa. Next, start putting late Al suspension pieces on an early car, and then remove big sheet metal parts in favor of CF. See Jim Calzia's web page.

Randy,

You just don't really get it do you? No, they aren't a fad, and they do save a little weight. Can you say tongue-in-cheek. They do look nice and very clean... if you don't like them... so be it
