Getting ready for the fun stuff!
Well it has been three years that I have had my 911. While I love driving it, it has been smoking for some time, it has small (I hope)rust issues, and is just overall, a tired car. I will start disasembling it in two weeks. I have relocated it to a friends garage and am collecting everything I need to start what I plan on being a two year project.
First, I plan a thorough inspection of the car and an assessment of the structural condition of the body. Then I will drop the engine and transaxle for a re-build. I plan on taking my time due to budget, so I will work on smaller components to fill in the time. I plan on keeping the 2.7 but upgrading to the Euro P&C along with early "S" cams. I already have webers. I will have to add the chain tensioners, turbo valve covers, and an external oil cooler. I plan on going with stainless exchangers and a new muffler also. As I write this, I keep thinking what the hell are you doing? But then I remember when Leland Pate re-built his engine that I really wanted to do the same someday and now I will. Anyone have advice on the exact sequence. I am thinking 1) Inspection, 2) engine & tranny, 3) misc. systems, 4) body & paint, 5) re-assembly of mechanicals, and 6) interior. I would take any suggestions or advice. See Ya, Mark http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1074375450.jpg[img] |
i want your garage!!!
the place where i'm working on mine has like 8 or nine cars in the same amount of floor as you do !!! i spend more time moving cars around to get one on the bridge then actually spend wrenching !! looks like you're good to go ! |
OK, so how do I keep the photos from stacking horizontally? That really irritates me.

How about this?

Mark,
Pretty car. I think your sequence sounds about right. I used the same sequence in rebuilding my 72 Pantera. Use patience in assembling the car after the new paint. |
Good God, man!! That garage is enormous!
|
We are installing a lift next week. It will be located approximately where the car is sitting. I plan on photographing the underside of the car and then it's teardown time.
I tore out some carpet today just to take a look around and my son was ready to start the whole thing. I have to have patience for both of us. |
that is a nice garage. a lift will be great!
