Faded Rear Reflector...Ideas???

My rear reflector on my '83 needs some work. There appears to be some sort of clear coat that has faded. In the spots where it has come off, the lens is nice and shiney. I can actually use my thumb nail and scrape off the coating.
Any ideas on how best to remove the faded clear coat? Looks like the reflector would look like brand new if I were able to remove the coating completely.
Thanks in advance!

Armorall, that's probably the problem. Rub it out w/ wax and do it whenever it looks dirty/dull, same w/ the turn signals.

I would use a cleaner on it before an abrasive, try the Castrol purple stuff on a rag. Do not use brake cleaner!

The armorall hasnt seemed to change the appearaance of the reflector...Have been doing it for several years...At least hasn't made it worse....I dont use it on the new turn signal lenses....Just wax

Man, I've posted about this issue on my '83 too. At one point I went as far as trying to scrape the white stuff off, but that got old fast. Maybe there is a shop that can refinish 'em?

What is with the yellow reflector on the left? You know what I've been thinking.
Making a fiberglass cover like Sir Olsen has. After removing my reflector and having a few days to look at it It seems like it could be an fairly easy upgrade that would make a world of difference in the look. Well, maybe easy isn't the right word but it would be do-able and the pink replacement for whatever astronomical price tag it has is not an option in my opinion.
I might have to start working on a prototype. Hell... If there is as much interest in this as there is in the pretty air box cover (I don't like the design myself) it may be worth it. This would actually be seen. How many people actually look at your motor anyway?

I didn't like that reflector either. The second one looks like a better possibility. Except for the faded clear coat...or what ever it is...My existing reflector is perfect. No paint loss, etc.
I'll have to look at Jack's fiberglass cover. Not much that I dont like about his BB2!

I've had some luck cleaning plastic parts with products like 3M "Finesse It", very mild and clear coat safe. But, maybe too mild for your reflector.

LOL, only on accident. Let's just say that some of my screwdriver handles have really good grip now.
