Braided straps for rear decklid...

Does anyone know what the two straps are for that attach to the rear decklid and mount in the engine compartment? I have removed my A/C and was was cleaning up some bracketry and noticed these. Are they needed? Look simliar to the ground strap on the engine/tranny underneath.

Thanks -

-Jeff

Should be grounding straps that prevent the build-up of electrical charges, caused by the fast moving air/fuel mixture in the carbs resp. the FI system. Have two of them connected to the air filter covers of my Weber carbs.

Jeff,

They are ground straps for the engine lid to comply with the rather strict German VDE [similar function to USA FCC] EMI/RFI emissions code.

Guess this is why the original ducktail had a metal frame ?

But serious,

My understanding was that the ground straps are a "safety device" preventing electric discharge and potential engine fires. If they are "only" for EMI/RFI purposes (not that there is anything wrong with it), I would consider getting rid of them, as mine are pretty worn out and I'm soon reinstalling my engine. Any other information on the real function of these ground straps out there ???

I have had a duck for the last few years and tossed the straps. So far I haven't died.
