Mahle Alusils?
Ok - I know that typically, Mahle built Nikasils cylinders and KS built Alusils for the 2.7 engines, but I've also heard that Mahle made Alusils cylinders as well.
So....Does anyone know how common the Mahle Alusils are? I just picked up a spares engine - it has Mahle cylinders and I'm hoping they are Nikasils, but don't want to get my hopes up too much. Regards, Andrew M

It's been my long-standing opinion that these are trade names and processes unique to the brand name:
Mahle= Nikasil Kolbenschmidt ( KS)= using the Alusil process. It would be like Coke making Pepsi  --Wil Ferch

Per the factory service manual ... Mahle Alusils were known as 'LS' cylinders. Of course the factory jokers called them all 'Vega' cylinders ...

Can some one point me specifically to where in the service manuals it says this? I have the 11 vloume 911 set from 1965 to 89 ....Don't mean simply showing "LS" as a designation..but a direct link between Mahle and Alusil ??

So, are these marked 'LS' on the cylinder as well?
