removing rear spring plate bushings
Anyone have a good way of removing the spring plate bushings that are pressed into the torsion bar tubes in the rear fender well?
I am adding Weltmeister sway-away spring plates and need to remove the old Neatrix bushings that are pressed into the housing that protrudes out from the fender well that the spring plate cover bolts to. The bushings stick out about 1/4 inch and are soooo tight that I cannot get them out. Any ideas from the group on how to remove these? |

There's a butt-load of postings on this subject. Try search and also the following link.http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/911_suspension_bushings/911_suspension_bushings.htm
I believe the common practice now is to put a torch inside the plate and smoke 'em off.

Hey Fred,
The way I understood your post, the bushings were stuck in the body of the car and not on the spring plate. Is this correct? If that is true, just torch 'em with a propane torch and use a screw driver to remove. BTW, I just added the Sway-away plates also. Make sure you custom fit the plastic bushings before installation. BTW, are you going to Mid-Ohio again this spring? Noel |

thats an unusual problem! i've just fitted neatrix......mmmm.
i wouldnt use a torch if they are on the body, i would try and carefully cut/saw through 'em. good luck.

Dickster,
I think Fred's post makes since, especially if he didn't glue the Neatrix bushings to the spring plate when originally installed. It won't take too much heat to soften those Neatrix bushings up enough to remove them. Noel |

Heat the inner side of the covers with a benzine torch until the bushings start to smoke and crackle, they will pry off easily and cleanly.
Even though it makes for a cool photo opp, do not do it like this: ![]() It reeks, makes a huge mess, and you will track tar into the house for weeks. |
