Although these pictures were not taken at Pocono, I watched this car take the podium at Pocono sometime in the 80s. I had an extra memorable moment with this car at Summit Point Raceway. I was just a tad over knee height and my father brought me to a PCA drivers' education. Some folks from Electrodyne were using the event to do some testing on the car. During lunch they offered "fun runs" for charity and my dad negotiated a ride for me in this car. Somebody scrounged up a miniature helmet that fit my small dome and after being secured in the seat we did a semi hot lap around the track. I still remember the excitement and adrenalin rush and when I deplaned my father asked the driver how fast we went. Whoever was driving said, "I wasn't really pushing but we probably reached about 150 on the straight." By the way, the straight at Summit isn't very long. Anyway this was one of those memories that has stuck with me and contributed to my fascination with Porsches. Tschuss!

Nice thread and great pics. I will look for my 935 pics from the early 80's at Riverside.

It's a combination of v-belt and bevel gear drive, I believe. If you look at the photo, you will see a belt going up to the area where the cooling fan normally resides on production cars. Barely visible, is a shaft that goes back to the underside of the horizontal cooling fan. A bevel gearbox redirects shaft rotation vertically to the fan. Takes HP(about 30HP), but more effective in terms of uniform cooling across all the cylinders.

This is a cool thread!

This was taken at the 2004 LeMans Classic. It's the factories 935 that they brought to the event. This is the only remaining 936 that the factory still has. The other 2 are here in the states. This last photo is of our 74 RSR that finished 3rd in the 2004 LeMans Classic. That's Tommy Johnson, one of the drivers. Tommy also finished 2nd overall at Daytona back in the early 80's.
