I've got a "friend" who moved out to Santa Monica and I may be coming out to visit her. Would it be worth planning it over Pomona Porsche weekend? Is there always good stuff or is it hit or miss?

If you've never been to a large auto swap meet, it's work going to. The Porsche stuff is on the corner right as you approach the meet. The Porsche items are mixed with VW, and there are usually several sellers who sell there every meet. The Porsche cars & other sports cars are also near the entrance on the left. You can find some nice buys there, but it's the luck of the draw. You can also buy new items from the sellers that come each time. Past the Porsche & VW area on the right, you can buy all kinds of products like rust stipper, rubber stuff, and american car accessories. People also sell lots of antique things. I bought an old early '50s Coleman camp stove there once. It's so big I've never seen the whole thing. I usually leave from the San Diego area around 4:30 AM, get there around 6:30 & make it back home around 1:00 PM. It's fun.

swapmeet
If you get there after 9am the line starts right off the freeway so you might want to go early.Parking is like going to a football game.

I've heard that you can get original RSR's there. Three for a buck.

Get there at 5 am. I found the best deals that way. I've seen all kinds of stuff from VW baja kits to 993 twin turbo motors. Its the only swap of its kind on the west coast.

Its a good trip, lots of stuff if you've never been before. Plus you'll get to breath in the wonderful fresh air of L.A.

for an every six weeks or so event and the fact that I'm only five minutes away it's not so bad, but.... it has changed in the last few years, gone are the days of finding lots of great stuff cheap. most of the really good deals were from the people that were just emptying out there grarages and now most of those people just put the stuff up on e-bay, why drive in some cases hunderds of miles pay for a sellers spot, when you can take a few pics and sit back and watch people bid. most of the cars that people bring have something major wrong with them if there asking a cheap price, they would not hold up under a PPI so they take them out there for a quick cash deal, the nice cars people are asking top dollar for and you tend to see them time and time again till the sellers get tired of hauling them out there or they finally catch a serious buyer. don't get me wrong ... I go out there every six weeks now just to BS with the guys and you never know what your going to find, but the summer is a lot more fun out there, 4AM walking around in a t shirt with your flash light looking for whatever is a lot better than last weekend where I was wearing a sweater two jackets and gloves drinking hot tea just to keep warm but I'm sure it was still better than anywhere in the northeast at this time of year, I spent over eight hours out there from 4AM till 12:30 and didn't spend a dime but thats not to say there weren't good deals out there but I didn't find anything I was after.

Thanks Sam.
To my knowledge we don't have anything like it out here and it sounds like it would be worth it just as you said to check it out and BS, maybe find something maybe not. The internet and Ebay aren't going away so maybe now's the time...

![]() Sam, it was nice talking with you while you were "babysitting" other people's stuff. I didn't get a chance to meet too many people durring the New Year's day Run. I also met up with Ian at the show. Saw his car. So, I guess Pomona is becoming a good meeting place for the Pelicanites. ![]() Oh, and I bought a pair of speakers for the daily driver, but nothing for the P-car. All I really want are SSI's and good luck tryin' to find those.

How's this for a plan: the Pelicanhead 3-day weekend. One day at Pomona, one day Mulholland run, one day at the beach.
