car wont start: more info
A week ago my 86 911 decided it wouldnt start anymore. Turning the key, the car cranked over fine, but it would not ignite and start.
New info: There is no spark and the fuel pump is not being activated. This is most likely a DME issue (right?), but there is one question mark. I had a viper security system installed about 4 months ago. Allegedly it shuts down the starter when the alarm is activated. Is it possible that my problem is with my alarm system? Any comments/hints? Thanks- Matt (86 911 Carrera coupe) |

Could be if it is wired in before the DME. I know that most installers usually go for the yellow ign. cir. wire from the ign. switch. Without knowing how yours is wired up, just really be guessing.

Matt,
E-mail ( Bell) on this board he knows alarms in an out. There is a relay that disables the ignition on Viper alarms. I am sure he can help you go aound it. Good luck.

This sounds like it could be the DME relay. Has that been checked? If the car is cranking, then it sounds doubtful to me that it is the alarm system since it "shuts down the starter".
I'd check the DME relay. Mike

What the others said. If you didn't have the alarm system it would be a classic DME relay problem. Switch that out. If it still doesn't start, you have an alarm problem.

Naw, it's not the alarm. When your alarm acts up the car turns, fuel pump goes on, but doesn't crank.

the mechanic said they "jumped the DME relay", bypassed it, and that the car still was not starting.
Ill be talking to the installer of the alarm tomorrow to get what info I can... -Matt |

talked to the alarm guy... the viper alarm is only wired to the starter and not the ignition.
DME relay was jumped as well What else could take away the spark and the activation of the fuel pump? thanks a million - Matt |
