Angry I need an EDM machine for my 911 near Sacramento Any suggestions???

I recently bought a salvaged 911 on the cheap, and I was able to unfreeze the motor and all still seems well inside. As to be expected nearly every damm heat exchange stud broke on removal and in all cases the break was inside the cylinder head. I haven't had a chance to fire up the engine to see if it runs. But if there are no discernable problems I would like to see about having this car transported and have a professional replace those studs without removing the engine from the car (again) I live here in Sacramento CA does anybody know anyone who can do the job nearby ? If the car runs it would be worth a lot to save me the trouble of dissasembling the car again.

No one can EDM out the case inserts or broke studs without removing the motor and getting down to the case. The workpiece (case) has to fit into the worktank of the EDM machine for the electrode to get to it and there are very few that can handle over 30 inches.

too bad you didn't ask how to do it without having to break all the studs. next time post a question first. all that work could have been avoided. you don't need to EDM those studs out. it's a drill project best left to professionals.

I follow Pelican Parts threads all the time and I did the removal as instucted. heated the nuts etc and used plenty of penetrating oil. These studs were just incredibly old and neglected I think it would have happened to anyone working on it. But since the studs are now broken I guess the question is if EDM isn't necessary is there anyone in my area (sac CA) who would be compitent to do the job?

In waynes book on how to rebuild porsche engines it shows and edm removing studs with the engine in a car, this book has been out for a while and I was curious if any other shops nearer to me have taken the hint and employed similar devices.

JW can remove those nuts without touching them with a tool. The torch blows them off.

For broken studs, he has a jig that bolts over the exhaust port and holds a drill bit guide over the broken stud.

Yeah I hear you I'll give him a buzz and see if he knows anything fortunately these studs were original (thats why they were so damm brittle) so drilling shouldn't be a problem if it comes to that.
