Front bump stops '79 SC
My car was lowered by the PO to Euro specs. The car basically feels like it is riding on the bump stops almost all of the time in front. I (shame on me) only have the Haynes manual and it is less than clear on removing the struts. Do I just take out the big bolt under the trunk lid and then the shock will swing out like on any generic Macpherson-strut car, or am I missing something? Also, assuming that is the way to go, will I be able to remove the bump stops without removing everything else like the ball joints etc. and freeing the whole assembly from the car. My commute is on less than perfect city streets and am even considering raising the car up to US spec if that is the only way. I gotta believe that the city streets in Europe (cobblestone and such) wouldn't favor this set up to much. Thanks in advance for any help.

I too am trying to figure out how to get the bump stops out. You are correct about getting the insert out. I just took of the top nut and washer and then pushed down on the strut and swung it out the side. (I had to stand on mine because of huge T-bars)
When I pulled the insert out, there were little bits of rubber on the bottom of the insert so I know my bumpers are trashed. I just can't figure out how to get them out?????? I hop an expert chimes in here. ![]()

Can you show a picture of the bump stop installed on a Bilstein front insert/strut housing? I am not sure if the previous owner removed mine cause I don't seem to have any on my car!
I would assume it should be under the dirt cover housing that is over the insert shaft that gets bolted thru the fender. If I take the cover off, there is no rubber bumper present.
