Just returned from a 3500 mile trip to SoCal in the 911. Used 1 qt of oil and a passenger door handle issue were it as far as mx. Great weather except for getting out of the NW (right after a snowstorm). Attached are a few pics of the trip

Hi Ron, yeah it wasn't my initial plan but yes. My wife can't do long drives, previously broken back and my driving, so I met her in San Francisco. We cruised leisurely down to San Diego where we spent the week. She flew home and I headed to the desert when I received word that one of my folks had been in an airplane crash and was in UC Davis Med Ctr. So I cut short the desert thing and did a coastal roar from LA to Monterey and across to Sacramento. Did what backroads I could to get back home but didn't quite get my desert fix. Still all in all it was a great way to decompress. Have any adventures planned Ron? Love to hear about it.

I'm in the middle of transforming the engine and electrics.. so I'm behind the curve now. Probably a few quickies this spring. I gotta feel out the new 911 for a real ride. After spring the wildlife is in hiding. I read that there is some old, presently un-molested, forest up in N NY at the Great Lakes boundary. Moose, real fresh water fish, wolf, bear, etc., without people, is where I'm gonna start exploring. I'm going to get a short underwater bang stick because looking for cat eyes, etc. at night, when I have to wizz, with a shotgun isn't very respectable. The 12ga will be only a bed warmer. Later, Ron

I would love to check out the valley. Is snow an issue there in Jan? Thats my biggest concern as I need to get out of here in Jan due to the greyness. Next year that is where I am going to spend more time though. Did some of 375/6/95 last year but my little alternator issue in Death Valley robbed me of some time so I had to make it quick. That upper NY is one gorgeous piece of the country and would make a great drive. The animals make it even better. Though I am more of a hotel camping kind of guy. DT

Wanted to add that we did run into some nasty animals on this trip but didn't need to cap these guys:

Otherwise it's a kinda nice isolated treed forest valley with a nice stream for a cool down when crossing Nevada. A hike would be a steep climb. Never been there in January. e-mail me for info. there are really nice B&B all over the country. I don't recommend what I do.. If I did small town motels I'd get depressed after 1 week. and for the interested few.. a sleeping bag and small tent is all that's needed. That's all I carry. I think that if you drove into the 4 corners area solo. then had the bride fly in.. You would be within easy reach of some fantastic Nat'l Parks.
