Porsche Crest Sport Seats?

Hi guys, last year I put out a request to id some seats and got several responses. I have started to take the seats apart during the winter months for recovery and have some better pics. Can you guys take a look at them again and please check the following:

1) Year and model of seat
2) Check foam backing..is it correct??
3) Who has a good recovery kit????
4) How do I get the recliner knob off?

Thanks!!

Those appear to me a mid 80's sport seat, very poorly recovered. The inner trim of the knob comes out to reveal the screw. Other wise, good luck. I'm not sure if that inner foam is correct or not. Given the bad recover job, my guess would be no...

Those look like the sport seats that ran from the mid to late 70's to 84/5. The lower cushion and back should be stitched and perforated but not the headrest's and bolsters.
Somebody should have a pic?

Porsche Crest Found a pic on E-Bay

Aside from the cloth inserts, is this a correct example?

Thanks

Porsche Crest Really Confused Now!

Well, as these seats come apart the back frame and bottom supports match 100% the following standard seat diagram. The foam for the back, bottom and leg support match the second diagram. So, someone took standard seats and put sport seat foam on the back and lower frame. I wonder if a sport seat recovery kit will work for me then? Help!!

I think you are mistaken. Your's are 82 sport seats. Standard seats had the recliner with the knob starting in '74, but not the Sport Seats. They had a lever from '74-'81 (see pix of my '74). '74-'81 sport seats had different recliner mechanisms. In '82 they switched to the round knobs.

Porsche Crest Here is the recliner mechanism from a 75 Std Seat

The round knob in this diagram matches mine #5..hence the confusion. However, the seat release button on mine is rectangular not round #9.

I think the round seat-release knob was '74 and very early '75 and then changed to the rectangular one. The round knob on the recliner was from '74 on for standard seats and '82 up on sport seats.

I don't think you are listening. Your sport seat diagrams are for a '74-'81 sport seat. Your seats are from an '82 up like these '82 seats:

Porsche Crest Looking Good

I am liking that diagram a lot, matches right down to the recliner knob and retaining clip for the knob. The confusion is over the guts below the vinal. The guts on mine match the 75 standard seat diagram. I have been on the phone with Autos International also and I have been getting the impression Sport Seat guts look different from what I have. Do you have a pic of the inside as an explosion? Thanks again for your persistance

Pete

Not sure about the insides off top of my head...you/they could be right. I can't do it now, but will either post or send you the pix you need later today or tonight.

Think We've Got IT!

Just spoke to Tony at Autos International again and he compared Flintstone's outer diagram and my description/diagram of 1975 standard seat guts with an 82 Sport Seat...and guess what they match. So, Porsche got a bit creative in the 80's it appears right down to a single wire cable on the seat release with matching part numbers. Another one for the archives I'll post some pics when I get everything all together..I ordered 82 Sports in vinyl with red piping and cloth inserts like the earlier e-bay photo.

Thanks again guys for all the help!!!

Hope it works out. I will send you the other diagrams as soon as I can scan them. Tied up right now. By the way, I have had some work done by Auto's Int'l...dealt with Tony too.. I think...and was quite pleased. Good luck.

From my experience, it seems that ones in good shape go from about $600 to $1200 a pair. Vinyl is usually less than leather, but condition and correctness of the upholstery also affect price. You often see redone ones that have a funny shape..sort of rounded at the top due to worn out cushions. They are pretty popular transplant to some of the later cars because they have good support with less weight than the power seats (still heavier than standard seats though). I think that sometimes the earlier version ('74-'81) go for a bit more because folks want the "correct" ones for restoration (many later cars have not reached resto condition yet).....and hardly anyone bought them in the mid '70s unless they were buying a turbo or other"special" car...Just having high-backs was a novelty then.
