There's a thread on this on the Rennlist 993 forum and I'd say John D.'s explanation is pretty understandable.

I saw this last night. Is there still adds on there if you subscribe? I think Wayne is going to pick up alot of traffic. I will check the thread, assuming I can get access?

If he doesn't realize that the free classifieds drive traffic to his site...c'est la vie.

How does Rennlist make money??? Just from the site sponsors? Or is it tied in to the race team? How can he say he made no money from the classifieds if the site sponsors are paying for the web site and half the traffic is there for the classifieds. Did I miss something

Oh well, there goes my last reason to ever visit Rennlist. But then, I was just a parisitic drain on his precious resources anyway.
![]() I'm amazed Rennlist gets away with their heavy handed management. That guy breaks every rule of on-line community building. But then you look at the traffic here vs there, and maybe it's just a case of the Captain of ship ruling with an iron fist, as the ship slides gently beneath the waves... Then again, the Pelican format prevents a lot of fraud by showing how long the seller has been a member of the community and allowing direct feedback to the ads. |

Regarding the free adds I noticed that 95% of the adds appear on both Pelican and Rennlist anyway. So no big loss there IMHO.

Rennlist was my first Porsche board. I went there for a long time.
Then I found Pelican and it was a non-stop party! ![]() ![]() |

But, then John Dunkle sets it all straight from time to time and explains that he pays for the site from his day job and gives the impression that it is not financially successful. So, it is unclear. |

I look at Rennlist as high school education and Pelican as college education. Much more advanced but better explantion.
Typical Rennlist Question: "I'm think of having my windows tinted. What brand should I use?" Typical Pelican Question: "I'm rebuilding my 3.0 in my garage and was wonder which cams go best with my PMO's." |

I also started on Rennlist(Porschelist). Hardly ever go there anymore. It's a ghost town.

I agree guys. But Rennlist's 993 BBS is a good resource. I have to admit I go there for help before I go to Pelican's 3.6 page. Some of those guys are truly cupholder, 996 tip drivers. But there's a core group of diehards there too.

Heck, I’m only 5 not 71!

I used rennlist when I first started using the internet for Porsche info. When I found the Pelican Parts BB I just stopped using Rennlist and deleted it from my favorites list. I just found this list to be better for my own needs.

I agree, John doesn't do a very good job of community building but I'm sure he has good reasons for doing it. I also went there mostly for the ads and checked out the forums etc. while there. One big difference between those and here is that the ads aren't threads and so they don't get bumped to page 12 overnight by all the new posts
