Window "Squeegy" question: new ones too short,etc.
 

These rubber seals shrink over the years to leave about a one inch gap for the water to run into the door. Ordered new left and right squeegies from Pelican last year and found them to be about half an inch too short before even installing. I am planning to order another new squeegy and cut it to make up the right length to get a good seal even if it means a hairline cut.
Is it possible to replace the outside window squeegy rubber seal by just removing the chrome/steel trim and then prying the new rubber into the grove? I plan to lower the window all the way and try to replace the rubber squeegy that way without having to take the whole door panel off. Has anyone else found the new seals to be too short? Can they be installed as planned? Experienced squeegy persons wanted. :rolleyes:

The seals stretch. I replaced mine becuse the original had shrunk. The new one seemed too short aswell but it stretches to fill the gap. Try before you buy another one.

Installation is very easy. Gently pry off the molding (don't bend it). Slide the squeegy in and put the molding back. With me, the new seals weren't too short. I'll keep the old ones, when the new ones are shrunk, just cut off a piece of the old ones, make it fit and it's fixed for years.

Thanks all: Another reason to change them is that they get harder with old age (contrary to the homo sapien males) and it takes more force to move the window which is not good for the electric motor & mechanism.

BTW through a very frustrating trial and error found Dawn Dishwashing detergent full strength actually allows new rubber window scrapers to slide in the chrome trim channel. I tried everything else ..... everything.
