R Gruppe goes to the track

21 California R Gruppe members rented the big track day today at Willow Springs. It was a great time, with great guys attending, no incidents to speak of -- and more track time than you could shake a dipstick at. Rob Wolford and Mike Gagen did a great job of organizing things. The weather was perfect. The cars (of course) were pretty amazing.

Here are a whole bunch of pictures:

Great shots, Jackson. I especially like the red '73 (?) with the #70 on it. Have any insight into the car?

Oh, and I think I see a middle year 911 there (the green one). (Hint, hint)

Was it as cold as last Wednesday? I don't know which was colder - Willow or the top of Stunt Road on Saturday morning.

That's easy -- New England was colder then all of them!

Nice pictures Jack. What kind of camera are you using? I noticed alot of people like the masking tape blue color. Perhaps I'll do that to my entire car and save the cost of repainting!

Whose car is the last one pictured, the black widebody?? That is the look I am going for with my project; I wonder what front fender set up and rear valance he used. The front is perhaps a GT Racing 911ST kit...?

That's Jack Olsen's (thread starter) car.

Many great threads on the build but here's one of them.

Black Beauty 2

Do a search for 'building a better black beauty' and you'll find them.

Are my eyes deceiving me or is that a water pumper mixed in with the R Gruppe? How did it perform?

My dad - Tony from TLG Porsche Service - built that car from the ground up.

It's a '70 911T that's been turned into a full-blown racecar. It's got a NASCAR quality roll cage and the whole car is powder coated. It's powered by a 11:1 carbuerated 2.4-liter with custom grind cams. It's a VARA car and is owned/driven by Paul Snyder.

The green '74 Euro Carrera belongs to event co-coordinator Rob Wolford. It's basically a MFI 2.7 RS-spec motor in a square-bumper car ... BONE STOCK. An absolutely beautiful machine that is for sale.

Rob also owns an RS so it was "okay" that he brought his (and he named it this, not me) Poor Man's RS to the track.
