Hmm, the serial # sticker is most likely unavailable. Perhaps a heat gun (on low), a plastic putty knife (or metal one, be careful) and new adhesive.

I know that you can get the serial # sticker from your porsche dealer. You may have to jump through some hoops but you can get it. I've no clue about the cat sticker. Randy

Unless you are legally required to have those stickers in that location, I would carefully cut them out with the sheet metal and reinstall elsewhere on the car (trunk?). Does anyone know the legal requirements?

Both stickers are available through your dealer.

Its a fairly straightforward process. The dealer should have a form to complete to order a replacement VIN sticker. You will need to supply a copy of your title or other proof of ownership/existing VIN. Some folks here have had longer wait times, but during the last restoration project that I went through several years ago, the fee was $65 and the sticker arrived from Germany about 2 months later.

If I recall the door jamb catalyst sticker also has a part number on it. In any event, I know that those were also available new for a couple of bucks, as I replaced it as well.

Good luck,
Tim

I have tried in vain with two local dealers to obtain the VIN sticker. If it is available, it is damn hard to get. The one dealer tried for months after I provided every stitch of documentation I could. The other never heard of "the form" and expended zero effort to help me out. Mask the sticker you have and paint around it.

Antares,

If you come across an incompetent or unwilling dealer, find another one. A given dealer may be an idiot, but the process itself is simple. I've done it several times, and there's no great mystery involved.

The VIN sticker part number is 911.701.112.29. The only "stitch of documentation" required is a copy of your title.

The EPA Catalyst sticker part number is 477.000.267.

And, as you've stated that you're replacing the metal itself in the door jambs/sills, I guess that the cheap method of painting around your existing sticker isn't an option for you.

If you have any problems with your dealer, send me a PM and I'd be glad to see if I can get a copy of the simple, one page form you need to complete from my local dealer for you.

Good luck,
Tim

Tim,

Are you a Little Feat fan? I saw the "Tehachapi to Tonopah" and thought of the song "Willin" by Lowell George.
