Dash clock repair

Well I was so proud that my clock still worked after 20 years. Clock has stopped. Has anyone ever tried to service their quartz VDO dask clock? Any documentation out there?

I had the car on a slow charger so the battery would stay pumped up. I have wondered if the dirty power might have killed the clock?

The car is an 83 911. The clock says Quartz. Don't know when they changed over from mechanical. I can't seem to get it open to even diagnose whether it is a mechanical or electrical failure. Looks like bezel is pressed or bonded in somehow.

A new replacement is $185 from PP. I'm sure all used are suspect.
Any comments?

I don't think used ones are too expensive. Many racers delete them in favor of a plug or HUGE red oil light. But, I prefer to referbish what I have. I get sick to my stomach if I have to throw a P-car part out. Even if I know it's done.

No A/C, no Sun Roof, no power windows. Fast and light, just the way I like it. (Sad to say, it's sold. But at least it remains with us on this board.)

Well...I'm a big supporter of this board, so this is always a bit of a sticky subject. I always try to buy parts from Pelican. Yet, my VDO clock had a cracked front lens when the P-Car arrived on my door step. So I replaced it with a used one from a Porsche dismantler. This replacement clock works perfectly to this day. While you take your chances, it seemed to work for me...cost me $65.00.

Its probably just dirty and in need of a cleaning. I took the two rear screws out, sprayed in electronic cleaner (electrical cleaner will also work ) , left it dry and reattached it. Works fine. Try it before disassembling.
