BA numbers (again)

So I finally get the new Excellence, and I'm reading the reader's sales portion and BA says a '95 993 prices are $23K for "low" and $27K for "good". Have they really tanked that much?!?

surflvr911sc 01-28-2004 08:35 PM

Not in the adds. A nice 964 is hard to find under $25k, 993s under $40 aren't easy to find. BA is sucking on the crack pipe again.

Wayne 962 01-28-2004 09:46 PM

Yes, I have seen cars in that range. 993s can often be found under $30K. I'm sure a "poor" version (maybe an accident car?) would go for $23K.

I've seen both. Over $40K and down near $20K. The $20K ones look they were driven by the Tasmanian Devil, though.

Who buys those cars though? Real world, not counting the completely uninformed, people are looking for a decent car at a fair price, $25k for a 993 is not it no matter how much I wish it was.

I’m in the market for two cars right now; a 993 for a guy at work, and a track car for my dad and me. A decent 993 under $30k, w/ <80k miles that has any documentation is not an easy find. A 964 under $20, w/ <100K is almost impossible.

BA either smokes crack or a lot of people are blowing it up his butt.

Hilarious! And sort of true. BA's like the Blackwell of Porsche ownership.

Hey, are you gonna' take Dave B. up on that 3.2 SC? Sounds yummy!

surflvr911sc 01-28-2004 10:10 PM

Anybody ever have a boss/leader that didn't have his facts staight b/c nobody had the balls to tell him? =BA I think there are a few threads in OT on GW about that very thing.

3.2 SC, Thinking... I'll stay in touch w/ Dave on it. It's all about timing.

When looking for a 993 a few years ago, I did drive a few lower priced cars (under $35k back then) and really got to see first hand what a uncared for 993 was like..

Definately get what you pay for....

I'm not sure Bruce is paying much attention to his marketplace.

He's way off on several types of cars, consistently.

A 993 in the low 20s is possible if: 1. It's Aventurine green, 3 it's Tiptronic.

Coupes bring the most, with Cabs and Targas lower.

For some reason the market for 993s seems to have a super sensitivity to mileage, so anything over 60-70K miles is going to be really hard to sell.

but there's no question that the last 18 months have been very hard on 993 values in the marketplace (along with everythng else).

Maybe as soon as the economy starts to pick up, and every employed person who wants to buy a house, has... maybe then prices will firm up.

As a side note, if you read the individual stories on cars bought and the prices, he always manages to rationalize premium prices. Very schizophrenic.

Good call on the Tip, they are much lower.

I think that the air injector problem might be part of the mileage bias thing. I've seen a few where it has been advertised this is documented as done, big plus in my book. If you have a car for $37k w/ over 50k miles and this hasn’t been done then the car cost $40k+ in my book.

techweenie 01-28-2004 10:47 PM

I've seen people claiming a documented $5K to fix the air injector problem...

But even before the '95/6 engine harness recall, when instrument panels were lighting up like Christmas trees, the prices were very strong.

I have a friend looking and he just turned down a moderate-miles triple black 6-speed 993 cab on my recommendation at $28K. He'll probably have to spend $32/33 for a passable '95/6 Cab 6-speed.
