Hersey date can not be changed. Rennsport II or Hershey?

Just got an email from the people that put on the Hershey swap meet. The date can not be changed due to their contract, and the fact that this event has taken place on this weekend for 15 years. If you had a choice, which one would you all attend?

I haven't been to Rennsport, but Hershey is a lot of fun.
How far (driving distance) are you from each event?

tough call, i know that Curt is putting together a drive to rennport so that will already bring the count of cars at Hershey down, I will make it for Hershey as I can't take the time off for the longer trip this year.

I plan on going to rennsport since it's not a yearly thing and what I need for my car has to be new (bushings, shocks, etc). I'll be back to hershey next year though :)

Carl Bauer 01-30-2004 06:09 AM

You have to go to Rennsport! They're bringing cars from the factory museum!

jbripps 01-30-2004 06:11 AM

Where is Rennsport located, and how long is the event?

Carl, Are you going? There's a group of us (and my friend from raleigh) who are going to meet in charlotte to go down on thurs.

It's friday, sat, sunday (I'll have to look up the dates again) in daytona florida.

Hershey is great if your looking for a certain part or really need to sell something that is tough to ship, (wheels with tires, whale tail, interior parts, etc). If you don't fit into this catagory, go to Rennsport. I was at Hershey last year in the pouring rain. I was excited about all the things I could get. After a few rounds or looking and haggling, I left with nothing, not even a tee shirt. If you've just bought a Porsche, go be all means. If you've had one for 5 years and just about bought everything you can put on it, your not going to find much more.

Tim,

Yes I'm going. I feel bad missing Daytona right now... but I'm just so fed up with the Daytona Prototypes but that's a whole other thread. I was probably leaving Thursday too so I can probably make the train of cars. I'll have 3 or 4 other cars along with me as well.

Carl Bauer 01-30-2004 07:34 AM

also...

I'm sure Gunnar Racing will be bringing most of what they have. They're only a short drive away from Daytona. I can't wait to see some of their collection in person after following so many restorations and rebuilds online.

Hershey's great, I've gone for the past 5 years but I'm going to Daytona. Rennsport at Lime Rock was awesome and I would think Daytona will be even better.

Cornpanzer 01-30-2004 12:46 PM

Rennsport for sure!

Yes, But sheduling tracks is tough...I'm sure this wasn't even on Brian Redman's radar, they are totally different events..

I wish that there wasn't a conflict, but I'm going to Rennsport. I've got to hear those flat 12s on the banking!

Halm 01-30-2004 01:40 PM

Let me see... Hershey and standing in the cold rain again, or go to Daytona for sun and warm weather plus see something that may never be on the east coast again.

Not a very tough decision is it? :D

dtw 01-30-2004 01:50 PM

Hal, that was my thinking, too. There's no guarantees that there'll be more Rennsports (though if II is as big a hit as I, they'll probably do a few more) I'm sure Porsche is spending a huge sum just on transportation alone and not making any money back. That said, I'm betting the next event will be on the left coast.

Halm 01-30-2004 01:53 PM

Dave, exactly. Plus, if I am gong to stand in the rain, I would rather be warm than cold like last year at Hershey. BTY, Hershey is great too. I'll be back there in '05.

Tim Walsh 01-30-2004 02:49 PM

That's my thinking as well.. The question now for me is can I get the Turd driveable in time even if it will look lousy.
