73 911S Euro differences??
I've just bought a 73 911S thats a Euro model(euro mfi pump# and euro guages) I was wondering what the differences were in engine spec's etc.? if any. I also thought all 73's S's had the front external oil cooler, this one does not but it does have the gasoline heater.

There was a cosmetic difference in that the '73 euro 911s still had the '72 style bumper guards, but in black instead of chrome. U.S. '73 cars had the rubber bumperettes of course. There may have been some U.S. mandated safety equipment differences as well, but someone more knowledgable will have to confirm.

Cosmo,
No difference is engine specs, whatsoever! USA engines got a 'selected' MFI pump with 'tighter' specs. Euro models got a stainless steel muffler, per Paul Frere. Was the car a coupe or Targa? USA 911S Targa models did not have the front oil cooler as standard equipment!

It's a targa, so that makes since...kinda wierd they didn't feel targs needed the extra cooling. Maybe they thought targas were unlikely to find thier way onto a tracks.

Cosmo, the Euro versions did not have the charcoal cannister for the fuel evaporation systems that our US spec cars had to have.
As far as front oil coolers, many of the 73's did not have them, coupe or Targa. I've owned original A/C equipped cars (Behr) with no front mounted oil cooler so 73 was a strange year for coolers. There were a few other small differences, no front bumper guards for the most part, interiors had more cloth inserts than US spec cars and a few exterior colors that we rarely saw. Probably more that I can't remember...

Thanks, that would explain the cloth inserts in the front seats.

As Warren said, the front oil cooler is an option, as well as the Wabasto gas heater.
My C of A also states that the loop cooler is an option - I read somewhere that it comes with cars equipped with AC. Any pics, Cosmo? Randy 73S Targa |
