2 things- 915 rebuild or rebuilt?...does this list sum it up?
 

Car: 1984 Targa, daily driver with 139000 miles, not a track car...canyon car.

Problem: Transmission Toast

Ive read through 915 rebuild posts for a couple days and have a couple questions.

1. Why would you rebuild "your" transmission as opposed to swapping it with an already rebuilt trans...the shop has the rebuilt one already (the rebuilt was built at the same shop my car is currently at...quality So. Cal. shop) ? The savings is approx. $600 for the rebuilt and my old one.

2. Listing of parts going in "my" trans...any additions?...are we missing anything easy to replace "while in there" considering this is my baby...but gritting my teeth already at the cost...gulp!!!

As with any rebuilt or overhauled product, you don't really know what you're getting unless you see the process. The shop might only replace parts that are "out of spec," and leave parts that are worn but still servicable. It seems to me that by doing the job yourself, you ensure that everything that needs replacing is replaced, and that you do all of the little extra "while you're in theres" as well. If I'm ever in your shoes, and I have the time, I'll probably rebuild mine myself.

Oh, and to clarify, I wont rebuild it myself...I will have the shop rebuilt it. I poke around a little bit, but I'm not on the DYI level that most of you guys are. Thanks Again.
