996 engine, trans replaced under warranty

Just had lunch with my daughters father in law.
He bought a new 996 Jan 2002. In Dec 2003 he heard a slight knocking noise in the engine, took it to the dealer and the Porsche rep ok'd an engine replacement. Engine replaced under warranty. Two weeks later the trans was making noise. Clutch and trans was replaced under warranty. A week after the trans and clutch were replaced the engine started to blow blue smoke, constantly. The dealer offered to buy his 996 and sell him a new one at a discount. He accepted and now has a new 996.

Now his old 996 is for sale on the dealers lot. Which makes me wonder, your'e a possible buyer looking at the car and the salesman tells you, the car has a new engine and trans and you have to ask yourself why does a realitively new car need a new engine and trans?

Do you know where that dealer is located (so we can inquire/avoid)?
