Experts Please, Torsion Bar Tube Question
I have to order the torsion bar tube (number 16 on picture below):
What is the difference between the tube on the Carrera RS 1973 and the rest of the 911s till 1986? The RS tube is so much cheaper, it just doesn't make sense to me. Also, what about 911s from 1987 to 1989? Didn't these use torsion bars as well? I am a bit confused. #16 Rear torsion bar tube 1969-1986 911.331.010.02GRV $927.00 #16 Rear torsion bar tube 911 Carrera RS 1973 911.331.039.00 $132.00

If I understand this correctly, the RS tube is the same piece but reinforced?

Wouldn't the RS tube also have the suspension mounts positioned for "Turbo" trailing arms rather then the non-Turbo bananas? Or would that only be on the RSR's? If you have to update to Turbo 'arms it will eat up a lot of that "savings".

Here is a picture of the torsion tube of my 74 Carrera. The arrow shows the reinforcement that we are discussing. It braces the torsion tube to the floorpan. Those are standard trailing arm mounts not Turbo.
According to Starkey the last 181 1973 RS's had the modified suspension mountings ![]() |

My PET shows 911.331.039.00 for 1973 2.7 RS from chassis number 9113601409 on, that would make it the tube with the modified suspension pickup.

Who did you guys find that could supply the entire torsion bar tube complete? How did you have it fitted? Does it require a special jig?
