windshield wiper keeps running

I had a problem with my windshield wiper continuously running like it was on intermittant, even when in the off position. So I picked up a new windshield wiper/washer switch and installed. Two things I noticed.
1) The ground from the original one was not attached. It looks just like the one pictured in the Bentley manual on page 960-7.
2) I installed the new one and I still have the same problem.

What's going on? And where does that ground connect to?

Anyone have any thoughts?

There's a relay/timer for this function in the front trunk. It's a little silver box that sits in a socket. On my '75 it was mounted in the middle, near the wiper motor. This component may have given up. You could try pulling it to see if the wipers stop.

I'll take a look at it when I get home tonight.

Be sure to check the Intermittant switch is off, it's between the
tach and clock.
