Jphn, no hijacking & very on Topic -- DD needs to look at some books (non-technical) re how to make your car handle. And think about race/autoX/street applications.

With all due respect, I have read many of the available books on how to make a car handle, and I am familiar with the dynamics of my car's handling up to the limits of my driving. I believe this discussion has simply grown overly complicated in lieu of the question I initially asked. Yours (Randy) was a good answer, as was John's and Wil's (as much as I could decipher Wil's answer). I merely asked, in short, if weight taken off one place in the car can supplant a need for additional rigidity somewhere else - i.e. with the torsion bars.

Sheesh! This reminds me, in-kind, of Philosophy 101 - Teacher: "What's a chair anywhere else in the Universe (tm)?"

Me: "Ummm...I don't know. A place to sit if you're tired while traveling the Universe?"

What I learned in school was stuff like, "There are two different kinds of people in the world; people who think that there are two different kinds of people, and those who don't".

I am definitely wat out of my league here w/ the equations, (as always), but common sense would tell you that making the car lighter makes any given spring stiffer in comparison to what it is springing/suspending.

I also realise that suspension travel does not tell the whole story of handling dynamics, but in a street driven car it would be a defining factor to larger and larger springs, aside from a generally unpleasant driving experience.

Setting up a 911 for handling isn't all that difficult or mysterious, everything under the sun has been tried and tested under competition conditions. My best info has come from experienced club racers w/ street driven cars.
