So, in the interest of weight savings, which tools are carried and which ones are left behind?

You can sub out the whole tool kit for an AAA card. That's much lighter.

Russ,

Leave the silly things behind... keep the fan belt, loose the AC belt. Keep the pully wrench and that's about it. Loose the spare and toss in a can of fix a flat, then you can loose the jack and lug wrench. Drill some holes in that AAA card and your all set. There is a REAL weight savings getting rid of the collapsable spare and jack, close to 40 lbs...

Geez, I find the tool kit to be perfectly useful. I adjusted my valves this weekend and used several of the wrenches, the lug nut socket wrench, the brilliant sparkplug tool, and the fan pulley tool. I use that 13mm wrench more than any other tool on my car. But my pleather wrap for the tools is pretty shot, a replacement might be nice...

(just looked at the auction, $40!?! not a chance)

LOL...one of my lottery fantasies was a leather tool bag, color matching the interior, with factory tools replaced with snap-on, factory tools only when they couldn't be replaced with snap-on...
it would be a hoot to show such a kit to the concours phreaks, ask them what they thought of it...with a straight face, of course.
