to be or not to be/oxygen sensor

Come on! fess up! Who is running without one and why?
What are the benifits to running with or without?

Here we go again. Let the debate begin

This is a topic that you can read about in the archives. Yes we have beaten this dead horse many times.

Mine is installed and the last time the engine was in the car it ran just fine.

Superman 02-04-2004 06:51 AM

Without. Because it runs better.

ubiquity0 02-04-2004 06:55 AM

Mike- you don't have an O2 sensor to worry about on your '79 do you?

Andras 02-04-2004 07:28 AM

Without, since the day the car was delivered at the factory, and came into the USA through Wilimgton.

You only need it to control emissions; it's not there for any other reason.

No problems without it in the 22 years I've had the car.

trj911 02-04-2004 07:45 AM

Without- because the wire broke at the connector and it would have been a pain to fix. I haven't noticed any difference.

Mike Kast 02-04-2004 03:22 PM

Sorry, I should have done a search. I don't like beating dead things. I don't have one on my car. I was just skimming through Wayne's book this morning and the book made it sound like a necessity. Since I have plugs in the place it could hook into on either exhaust set up I have, I assumed there could be one. But neither set up is stock so maybe not.
That's all. This topic can go back to the archive now...
Thanks guys...

Without, runs great.

jpachard 02-05-2004 05:00 AM

Without. It's not used at WOT, Why have it then? Extra weight...

Embs 02-05-2004 06:03 AM

Thi guy's site is a little campy...with the music and all, but very informative. You will be an O2 sensor authority if you read his whole page.

TURN YOUR SPEAKERS OFF OR ALL OF THE WAY DOWN, THE MUSIC IS PATHETIC.

Without the O2 for two months....my 86 got terrible gas mileage (15mpg) and stunk like crap (had odd odor).

I installed the new O2...and am now getting 23-24mpg and no stink.

Do the math.

I don't have one on my car -- but then there never was on it! ;)

You gotta love MFI!

You've got EFI not CIS ... apples and oranges. The only function an O2 sensor has on CIS engines (and then only the last 3 years of the SC) was to meet emission standards, then in place, at an idle. At any other throttle position it had no effect, beneficial or otherwise.

You do the math.
