Sorry Jim I got so distracted by Sherwood that I forgot your question.
You can use the late scoops like Jack did on his car, doesn't get cheaper than that, otherwise the largest ducting that can be used from the front spoiler There are some references on this page that you might want to investigate. |
Thanks Bill!

Jim:
Mackpipes and I have a set of brake cool intakes (attach to lower control "A" arm) and hose runs to backing plates (replaces OEM plates). http://www.ogracing.com/eshop/images.../COOLBRAKE.gif Mine are on an extra set of 3.5" ear struts and Pipes has the standard kit from OG-racing, yet to be installed on his '85. These would give adequate cooling and well suited to the basic upgrades you have already done. You are welcome to check them out any time. FWIW: I run PF 97 pads, super blue and SS lines on my street '76 and it is fine for DE use at SP, Jefferson, etc... The Dorki Carerra boys had a hard time burning up seals last year b/c: 1. they probably over-used "a little" while learning 2. their cars are heavier / faster than yours or mine 3. the piston seals were not new (notice I didn't say old... :) ) Jason |
"... the earlist cars '64-67 w/ M front & L rear caliper used the non vented rotors as did the '68T w/ M & L combo and the '69T w/ M & M combo, but all the other 911s thru '83 used the same vented f/r rotors"
Hi Bill, I was aware of that. Are you responding to Jim Richard's or jmcjunkin's question? I was trying to answer jmcjunkin who didn't reveal what system he was starting from. I assumed he had an earlier 911 or even a 914 with solid rotors. jmcjunkin, If you already have vented rotors, replacing the M calipers with a bimmer caliper with the same M-size pads is zero improvement. Sorry Sherwood, I figured you woud know, this does get confusing sometimes:(

Thanks Jason. I'll need to check out that cooling kit from OG Racing and also the one from AJ USA. As far as fluids / pads go, I'm using ATE Super Blue (need to flush it all before the next DE) and Hawk Street pads. They seemed to work well at SP last Oct. Of course, I was slow as Christmas so I could've used Fred Flintstone's braking system without overheating. :D

Yes, I have vented rotors -- which I assume came standard on my 71 car. Interesting discussion here. I will start with a change of pads and fluid and see where that goes. Interesting though, virtually everybody I talk to (off this board) is telling me that moving to the SC / Carrera calipers will be a world of difference. I have not driven an early 911 with these so I do not have a good basis for comparison.
The takeaway here is that a larger caliper on the same size rotor (or rotor with the same thermal characteristics) will not improve braking, all else the same. That is what we are saying, correct? |
