Any European engineers?

Hey Guys n Gals,
I have a Swiss print that reads:

Hole
1.6 H7 diameter

Shaft
1.6 h8 diameter

Metric of course

My machinery handbook does not cover that combination of allowances and tolerances.

Can you provide the maximum and minimum for the above dimensions?
I’m trying to match up EU instruments with US instruments.

I believe you can get those allowances out of bearing books. Torrington, NSK, SKF, et al. I don't have one in front of me right now.

Sorry the torrington book I have does not go below 3 mm and does not list H8 tolerance for the shaft at all.

Google ISO 286-2

Use these net resources at your own risk.

Good luck

Matt

We'll I'm a long way from a European engineer but some of us "Maricans" have to deal with these "communist units" all the time.

From "Machinery's Handbook, 25th edition" ANSI B4.2-1978 R1984 based on ISO system of metric limits and fits:
1.6mm "locational clearance fit" or H7/h6
Hole H7: 1.610/1.600
Shaft h6: 1.600/1.594
Fit: .016/.000
all units are in millimeters

Cheers, Jim

Matt,
Thanks I'll try the link you mentioned.

Jim,
I have the same edition but couldn't find an exact match.

I'll give the EU engineers a chance to pipe in.

Thanks,
Mike

The ISO 286-2 doesn't cover shafts and holes below 3mm?
Where else should I look?
