				Seat Advice

I'm restoring a 73E Targa. It currently has square back seats that have some tears but mechanically are in good condition. My preference would be to get some sport seats of that era but they are hard to find. So, short of finding correct original sport seats, what should I do? Re-cover the original square backs or go with after market seats that are similar to the original sport seats. My delimna is between re-sale value and comfort/styling. That is : staying original with seats that dont light my fire, or get seats I like but arent original. | ||

I'm waiting for info from the rep, he is in Las Vegas and has most of the offerings from their website in stock. Stefan Schleissing GTS gran turismo sportscars 702 353 7175 email is:GTSinLV@aol.com I am also getting early info from a company in Germany that is considering building repro early sport seats this summer. They are trying to make them accurate. Pricing is targeting 500+ upholstery, so guessing around 8-900 + shipping. Similar to Vintage Seats costs, but an alternative to a racing style bucket. These are the guys: www.sitzklinik.de www.cartex.de

Keep the original seats in storage for future sale...or if you change your mind. Buy seats that you want to drive in. In you circumstance, I would probably redo the original seats, but use an aftermarket driver's seat and the original passenger seat...storing the original driver's seat.

Check out the Corbeau GTA Lo Back seats. I just put a pair in my '72. They are very comfy, nice fitting, and have a great vintagesque racecar vibe. I bought them because they are very "era appropriate" looking. Furthermore, they can be bought quite cheaply. (I got a new pair with mounting brackets for around $400. ) The original (non-sport) 911 seats from this era look more at home in a bass boat, provide no hard-corning support, and they weigh about 40# each! -Jeff
