Yep - I think those are probably the same ones I bought and sent back! The story sounds exactly the same. The seller was in Miami and his eBay name is "real muscle", I think his name was Tony?
I got the wheels and they looked OK, but when I started cleaning them I noticed that the centers were different. The front pair had the same rim diameter and width, but the center sections were 2 different diameters - one was like 12" and the other was like 13", and the part numbers were different. Same story for the rear pair. They were the sizes they were claimed to be, they just didn't match left-to-right. I called the seller and he played stupid, like he couldn't comprehend what the problem was. I finally got him to agree to take them back, but he would only refund the price of the wheels so I ended up eating $140 in shipping. He re-listed them immediately on eBay, so I tracked the auction, contacted every bidder and told them the story. Everyone retracted their bids and he ended the auction early. I figured the guy would just throw them in the dumpster, but I guess he found another sucker (no offense - I was one too!) Anyway, if it's the same guy, he clearly knows what he has and is continuing to misrepresent them. If I were you, I wouldn't use the wheels and I'd demand a full refund from him, including shipping. Let him know that we're all on to his scam. |
Is the guy an individual or a company? I would expect the rules that each goes by are different. If the guy is an indivudual I would think you have an obligation to inspect carefully and therby accept responsibility for the error. Then it can be fixed before the money is released. Buyer beware.
If a company I would think he would not want his name spread all over the place because of his poor quality control. Even after four months a company would have the resources to resell the product truthfully. If you ship them back, I doubt you will ever see your money. It has been spent on fuzzy dice, a blond or something important like the rent. |

A buyer should take every precaution with every mail-order sight-unseen deal. In this case, the buyer should have worked out return terms with the seller before sending money and recieving product. It is not up to Pelican to police cases like this. |
Wavey, it sounds like the same issue, but not the same wheels. On these, the rears are the problem. One has a 15" center and the wheel halves are bigger to make up the difference and still end up with a 16" wheel overall. The seller deposited $200 in my Paypal and I told him I wasn't satisfied, but I haven't anything else from him. Again, he's not being a jerk about it, but we just disagree. Anyone want a set of $200 track wheels?
Skul, I wasn't implying that Pelican should police this type of activity. From my perspective, it is a privilege to sell items on this board and if I misrepresented an item or was dishonest in a transaction, I would expect my name to be posted and the problem made public. That is the only safety net (not much, i agree) buyers have here; the dishonest seller will be called out. In this case, the seller has at least returned my e-mails and part of my money, and i don't feel he has outright tried to rip me off, so i decided not to post his name. We just disagree. |
I must commend your restraint on not naming names...this is in fact a case where buyer and seller just disagree, and both could have done things differently for a better outcome...but you live and learn. Without hard proof of deception, it is best to take the high road imho...
