930 Bosch CDI failure test?

1977 930 with ign on their is no high pitched whine and of course does not start.

#14 pin is getting power to CDI system, the CDI is an 8 pin and is also getting power from the harness plug, continuity is good to distributor wire but I am only getting 1.8 volts to the distributor. is this normal?

Any other tests to check the CD box or other relays for the system?

Any reccommended CDI rebuilders?

Thanks in advance

If your getting voltage to the CDI box, but no whine then the box could be faulty. Make sure that you have good ground/connection at the stud behind the fuel filter, and that the power is not intermittent. The unit should whine when energized.
Try Mayo performance in Texas. They will exchange your unit for a rebuilt. I imagine there is a way to test the resistance/operation of the unit out of the car.

Rick,

Read this thread for a discussion of CDI unit failure modes ... yours sounds like #1.

What goes wrong with OEM CDI units?
