Need input on this seat.
Does anyone know anything about the Corbeau TRS seat (see pic below). It appears to be similar to a Recaro SRD. Any experience or knowledge about this seat will be helpful. I am looking at this seat as an alternative to factory sports seats. Thanks in advance for your input.

Hey Scott - I sat in one yesterday - seemed well made and comfortable - wait a minute, I already told you that :) I too am interested in what people say about this seat. If you do a search on Corbeau you will find several people have good things to say about the general quality of their seats.
They are different from OEM sports seats in that the side bolsters are more pliable thus allowing more different shaped people to sit in them while probably not providing as much lateral support in high speed turns (but that is what 5 point harnesses are for). |
I owned a set of Corbeau Targa RS seats, and didn't like them very much at all. The bolsters were just foam, so they looked like they'd provide support, but didn't. Worse, they sat much higher than the Recaros they were replacing, and after installing them, I didn't have enough room to sit with a helmet (I'm 5'11").

Jack - you now have me concerned as I have a set of these on order. Are you tall in the trunk? I am 6'2" with long legs. In normal OEM sport seats I have to recline a bit with a helmet on to get my head some clearance.
Scott - if you want seats with lots of lateral support, the CR1s are very good - the side bolsters are supported with a metal frame: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1076445351.jpg |
Thanks for the input Jack. ZCAT3, I am sure you will be happy with the seats, they look great! I will look into the CR1s.

Scott,
What's wrong with SPD's? One of the best things about them (especially in your car...84) is they bolt right in with the stocK rails. Brainless install. I've sat in a Corbeau sp? and noticed it to be higher as well. A little bit mor butt room, but not much. Also, the seat didn't "feel" as rigid as the SPD's. I didn't get to drive in it so it's just an initial impression. I really like my SPD's. Great seat for road/track. The wife digs them too. WAY better than my sport seats... |
Geoff,
I am not sure about SPD's, but my SPG's were too track oriented for me. I need a good sport seat for daily driving. The SPG's were great for the track because you really sink into the seat and won't move. I just need a happy medium. I would also like a non shell for daily use, as I would like to have easy access to the back seat. |
Scott,
My bad... I keep typing SPD... it's SRD. Here is a pic. If you had SPG's then the SRD is what you are looking for. Excellent seat position, seat reclines and comes forward for back seat access. They come in all styles to full leather. Mine are the cloth, which I really like. It's like the cloth side of velcro. The actual SRD name is now sport, but basically it's the same seat. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1076455472.jpg :D |
Geoff,
That is a very nice looking seat. I like the all black, which I believe is not leather, for $625. I am not quite sure about vinyl. Any thoughts? Also, my wife is only 4'8" tall, so I am a little concerned that her head may rest exactly where the plastic insert for the harness is located. Are the bolsters reinforced with something more than foam, like the sport seats? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1076457496.jpg |
Mine are all black in the cloth. The seat backs are a bit higher, but I'm not sure about her head hitting the plastic. I would say no, depending on how the seat was set.
The bolsters are VERY firm, not quite as firm as a fiber race seat, but pretty close. I'm pretty sure there is a fiberglass frame inside the seat, the foam is very firm, and the feel is great. Like I said, a HUGE improvement over my old sport seats. My position can now be more upright, yet feel lower. Install is a no brainer, take your old rails off, put them on the SRD and put them back in. CAKE:cool: |
I went down to a local shop with my wife this evening to check out seats. The speed is a nice looking seat, but my wife's head does rest up against the plastic...not sure if something can be done? I also sat in the Trend and the Mobility. I liked these two because they did not have the plastic in the headrest. The downside is the small seat bolsters, or is that a plus? See pics below.

The thing you might think about is one of each. The match is close enough , and if you cross and do driver's events, then you have the harness access through the seat for you, and a nice comfy seat for her when your out. As far as support, I'd say it's not going to keep you as planted as the SRD would. Those two examples look a lot like the original sport seats, and overall the support wasn't great. The butt was planted but the rear side bolsters were worthless.
The one thing that really shines for me with the SRD is the wide seat back. I weigh about 205, and have a fairly wide back and this seat fits like a glove. Very secure for a "street" seat. Those other seats are sweet looking though, and would definately be an improvement, just really depends on overall need.:D |
