911 on a flatbed.

let say on one of my test drives, my handiwork prove fruitless, and the car goes kaput! of course i would get a flatbed to tow it home (this would apply to trailers too). where are the best attachment points for the guy to secure the car down? the tow hooks up front? what about the back? this is info i should have just in case. thanks

Cool

Probably lower A-Frames in front. Trailing arms in the rear.

Good luck,

I should think most flat beds have those cargo strap webbing things that envelope the four tires. Pretty sweet actually. I wanted something like that for a car trailer I used to have.

If the tow dude has nylon ratchets and axel straps you can just run them through your Fuchs. I'm not sure I would want to tie off to my A-arms, those are pricey, I'd hate to bend one.

Of course you could get a set of these for the rear:

tie down hooks

The front is not so easy.

I'm with Spud on this!!
I take my track car to the track
on a flatbed, nylon straps through
the wheel with load locks.

When my car was on a flatbed due to DME relay failure (and stupidity of owner to leave replacement on kitchen countertop) The guy hooked onto the tow hooks....put straps through each Fuch and put the webbing around each wheel. He then used the crane-type dolly thing to ratchet the car down securely to the flatbed. It held in place very well. Cost $180 bucks.

Do NOT let them ratchet down a tow strap attached to a suspension member. No, they're not going to bend anything, but they can throw alignment specs out of whack. As others have said, a nylon strap through the wheel is the preferred method.

yeah Mike, I used AAA...but at this point I dont have the preferred membership, so it only covered 7 miles of towing. ugh...

Holy cow, Cliff -- your posts are almost manic-depressive! You go from "I'm giving up and selling the car" to "Everything is fine, you talked me off the ledge" to "My car will break the first time I take it out."

But then, it is a good question ... I'll probably have to tow mine back to the garage first time out, too. Thanks for the info, all.

Go with the straps through the Fuchs. After having the same questions as you I towed one about 300 miles this way last year and it rode perfectly.

One other word of advice - be careful with your approach angle getting the car on the trailer. It's very easy to damage the front bumper / spoiler if you don't watch the clearance (uh, so I hear....)

Couple points-where they pull from in loading the car is important-one of the best way to do it is to hook on to the rear torsion tube, but you need to put a block between the cable and the front spoiler on most cars.

The tiedowns should go thru wheels if they permit.
