ac quick disconnects
After recieving much abuse from the weight weenie himself I wondered how tedious it would be to install quick disconnect hoses for the entire ac system. for racing purposes you could drop a lot of weight although you would leave the hoses on the car only removing the pump, dryer and radiators for the ac. still thats a good amount of weight. So does anyone know of a company that makes or sells quick disconnects in custom sizes???

I can see where you are going with this, but most quick disconnects I have ever seen seal only the 'pressure source' side of the hose. With an a/c system the entire system is not only under pressure, but has to be sealed from moisture and the open atmosphere. There may be connectors out there to do this but the cost would have to be very high.
Good luck,

Even the double sealing disconnect fittings have a "dead volume" in the fittings. In an A/C system this would introduce non-condensible gases and moisture upon reconnection. One would either have to evacuate this volume or purge it with excess refrigerant after reconnecting the system. While theoretically feasible it would be difficult to fit such fittings in the already crowded space around the compressor in a 911 engine compartment. I actually doubt most drivers would notice the difference in handling caused by the weight of just the compressor. The horsepower lost of just turning the belt and freewheeling the clutch is not great but one could easily disconnect the belt to eliminate it. Cheers, Jim
