What is the most popular Summer time oil Viscosity used. Dino, Synthetic, Blend, vegetable oil, etc. Brands not the issue here. Just curious, my first summer in my 911 with no track use, just speed here and there....Thanks! Only 4.75 months to summer!

I go with Kendall GT, 20W50. Same as winter. Hasn't been a problem so far, and comes highly recommended by people I trust.

Castrol 20/50 for spring through fall. If you drive ypur car in the winter, use a 10-40 or lighter. When the temps get low, like it does in the Midwest, I would not want my oil pump trying to pump cool 20/50 oil. Think of the poor engine.

2000 miles you are throwing out good motor oil. How many miles do you put on your car a year? Steve

I agree with Art Z. You may have more life in the oil when you change @ 2000 miles, but I just priced a complete rebuild for an engine that did not have perfect maintenance. Also, there is the time element involved between oil changes. Once a gasoline engine is started the oil becomes contaminated, as you know. Thinking "well I've only got 2200 miles on the car so it doesn't need a change". If you have accumulated that milage in three months the oil needs to be changed.

Steve,
I only put on about 4000 miles a season, then the car is stored for the winter. Since I only do two oil changes a year, I don't think I'm being wasteful. I send the oil to the recycler in my town. I also change the Swepco 201 in the gearbox at the same time. I've only had the car for two driving seasons and I don't know how well the car was maintained (oil-wise) before I bought it, so I'm trying to avoid any problems.

Mobil 1 15W-50
I change mine annually, each Spring, regardless of mileage. Most of the time, the oil has about 4000-5000 miles on it.

I use Mobile 1 and change each 6 months. That is usually 4-5K miles. When I first got my car (3 yrs ago) the oil had not been changed on a regular interval and the inside was NASTY! I changed the oil and tranny dope the first time, ran about 1,000 miles and did another change on both the engine and transaxle. Since then I change the engine oil in September and then do a full service (change spark plugs, adjust valves, change all filters and oil) in April. I chose those months to avoid the really hot or cold temps.

Just to add to the possibilities....
you can run straight 30W. At a given quality level of oil, the straight weight version will have less VI ( Viscosity Improvers) which are the agents that ultimately break down and gum things up. All-together, a better proposition if the climate temps don't swing up or down too much during this time. ---Wil Ferch
