Help passing CA SMOG

Looking for tips on passing my california smog test. My 77s is running a 3.2 case with 78 3.0 heads and CIS in addition to a backdated 74 exhaust with no cat. Does anyone know how strict the emissions are for that year? I have about a few weeks before it's due but I'm thinking that if I tweak the lean mixure enough it may squeak by. Thoughts?

Didn't 77s have a smog pump?

Do you have a sticker under your engine lid? That has codes of stuff the tech is supposed to look for.

That year should have a smog pump (including air injection lines and injectors), EGR system, and thermal reactors in place. My understanding is that without these items it will not pass the visual inspection. I don't know whether or not the smog check involves matching numbers on the engine and case, but I don't think it does. You may end up having to take the car to the referee. Or, you could attempt to register the car out of state. Or, you could try to find an unscrupulous smog station (not likely).

Most Porsche engines will pass smog easily when running properly. My 1979SC with 189,000 just passed California's new smog test with plenty of breathing room. The engine was smog legal. If you have a smog pump & related equipment you should also pass, easily. Most smog stations will not be able to figure your engine modifications. They may be able to figure out you don't have the cat. Why not make the car legal, better for you and the enviroment.

When I purchased my SC all of the smog equipment had been removed by the p.o. except the catalytic converter. I re-installed the smog pump, egr valve and related plumbing. The car ran just as well and just as fast as it had without the equipment.........
