Emission testing in Las Vegas
Got a job offer in Las Vegas...will probably have to take it because ...no other decent offers. According to DMV site, emissions testing is required for 1968 and up. Geez..thought all civiliized world only tested cars less than 30 years old. Any real world experience with Nevada? Do they typically inspect the equipment or just do a sniffer? What kind of standards could they have..emissions wise...on a car without emissions equip? If I take the job, should I leave the car with my wife in NM where it is exempt?
Also understand that NV has a classic car exemption if car is driven less than 2500 mi per yr. Only requires initial testing, but not annual to renew. Any experience with this? Old two speedo trick?

rumor has it
I know there are several pelicans from LV. I have had family there since the 60's and get out there for work and play fairly often. There is a rumor that some people have their vehicles registered in other states
Another option is have a vaction place outside of clark co. hope that helps some |

A lot of states west of the mississippi and east of calif. have emissions testing by county. Check it out. You may need to rent a mail box somewhere.
Missouri has 2 or 3 counties for emission testing. I am busy fighting for a rolling 20 yr exemption. David Duffield |

Yes, apparently it is by county in NV, but registering elsewhere won't work because my job would be on an AF base (Nellis)...they require any car used (registered) on base to meet the host county (Clark) requirements....and Clark County requires testing. It is the same here in Albuquerque....if you operate on Kirtland AFB, you must pass the local (Bernalillo) county emissions..even if you live in another county that does not require testing. Fortunately, '74 and earlier are exempt everywhere in NM. Depending on what they are looking for, I might still be ok since there was not much in the way of emissions equip on '74s and I have a fresh engine. Assuming they only test older cars for CO, maybe just temporarily leaning it out with the gastester would do the trick. Does anyone know if they do a visual too, or just a sniffer? I will probably have to find a charcoal cannister too. What a pain in the butt! Heck..I probably should just retire and stay put.
