The Hunt Continues
Got some bad advice on a PPI, and made a quick decision to pass on a car I looked at this week. By the time I talked to my wrench, the car was sold. I feel like this is the one that got away, great car, great seller.
So I am still on the hunt for a nice car, what am I looking for, well that is open. I want a clean car, can be an 911 SC or a 911 Carrera, would even consider a early 911. I have come to terms, that I really like cars with duckstails on them, 7&8 polished wheels. Really looking for a nice car that someone has cared for, car must have records. I have a budget of 20K, and which doesn't include my reserve. Michael

Make Bruins Great Again
|
I just finished my hunt last fall.
![]() IMHO, ducktail and polished Fuchs can be added later. A good history and solid body and mechanicals are far more expensive to fix. Find the car you want and then make the tail and wheels "future projects" or start hinting around birthday and Christmas time. Happy hunting and don't be afraid to be picky; it will cost you dearly if you make a bad mistake. There are many horror stories of rushed decisions.

just out of curiousity, what was the bad advice on the PPI? That car appeared to be very well sorted, and the owner a known quantity. Doesn't get much more stacked in your favor than that...

The shop that did the PPI, told me that one of the oil leaks was going to cost in excess of $1500. My local wrench said he could do it for less then $500.
I saw the car in person on Thursday, and the car was extra clean, was a great car. Michael

Michael was a terrific guy, and I feel bad for how the sale of my car went. I got the feeling after the PPI that he was having 2nd thoughts, and didn't want to lose another sale in the mean time. The new owner is an older women, very nice, but has never owned a Porsche! I was afraid to let here drive it, but when her husband explained that one of her prior daily drivers was a 68 SS big block Camero with a 4 speed and no power steering or brakes, I felt a little better about it. She surpised me and drove the car great for a first timer. I was ever more surprised when they gave me a deposit with very few questions asked. They actually live in my neck of the woods, and it bums me out that I will probably see the car from time to time. Would rather have had it go down south with Micheal and never seen it again. Oh well, you never know how these things are going to work out. The car gets picked up Tuesday, and Michael, if for some reason it falls through, I'll let you know.

What oil leak costs $1500 to fix? Probably costs less than $50 to DIY fix and that's a great way to bond with your car. Don't be scared off by that again.

Hi Derek,
How long were you trying to sell your Targa and what do you think kept it from selling faster? It looked like a nice clean 911, post a pic of it ![]() |

Actually, before I decided to pay off my house, I was the reason.
I listed it, but went back and forth on selling. Michael responded, along with others the first few days listed. I have the auction still going as a back up, and it is at $15,300, with several questions every day still. Derek PS, I sure wish I would have gotten the smog a few days ago. The weather here sucks, and is expected to continue for several days.

Bob,
Love the amber fog look, I should have done that! OK, there is the first reason to start saving for the next 911. Derek |

Derek, How can you have an "auction still going as a back up", when the car is presumably sold?
![]() What are you going to tell the winning bidder? Other than that, congrats on selling the car I guess. ![]() |

I'll have 24 hours to end the auction from the time the purchase on Tuesday is planned to take place.
With car auctions, this is very common. Although, I should have specifically noted that the auction was subject to prior sale, I usually do. My bad. Derek |
